Faculty Spotlight: Panoussi
Join us every month as we shine a spotlight on one of our excellent faculty members! First up, Prof. Panoussi.
What is your favorite part about teaching at W&M?
I love teaching W&M students because they are so smart, interesting, motivated, and hard working. No matter how I feel on a given day, I am always smiling when I leave the classroom. I've taught at four different institutions in my career; the students here at W&M are by far my favorite.
Where did you live before coming to W&M?
I grew up in Athens, Greece. I moved to the US, and specifically to Providence, RI, to go to grad school. After I received my PhD, I lived in Charlottesville, VA, Williamstown, MA, Port Jefferson, NY, and Boston, MA.
How did you spend your most recent summer vacation?
This past summer I was in Greece doing research and visiting my family. I spent my time between Brauron, in Attica, and the island of Andros in the Cyclades. I also visited Delphi and Mt. Pelion. Mt. Pelion has incredible natural beauty and breathtaking beaches.
What do you like to do when you're not teaching?
I love to do my research! But I also enjoy running, hiking, biking, cooking, and playing the piano.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 books would you bring?
I wouldn't bother taking with me Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, because I almost know it by heart! Vergil's Aeneid, Aeschylus' Oresteia, and the Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie. Bundle Brent is one of my all-time favorite characters.
