Professor Panoussi receives Plumeri Award

Lily Panoussi
Our own Lily Panoussi was one of twenty William and Mary professors who were honored last April with the Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence.  The award was established by Joseph J. Plumeri II ’66, D.P.S. ’11 in 2009 to recognize the contributions of faculty who are active in scholarship and dedicated to the W&M community. Professor Panoussi certainly fits the bill!  Her first book Greek Tragedy in Vergil’s Aeneid: Ritual, Empire, and Intertext (Cambridge 2009) was a groundbreaking study of Vergil's creative use of Greek drama.  She is hard at work on her next book project, Brides, Mourners, Bacchae: Women’s Rituals in Roman Literature, which explores the many ways that Roman authors drew upon social and religious rituals to deepen their treatment of mythic subjects. Professor Panoussi also directs the department's post-bacc program and is a wonderful mentor for our students. Congratulations, Professor Panoussi! You can read more about the award here.
