Professor Giffin earned her Ph.D. in Art History with Distinction from the University of Washington in 2017, specializing in art, space, and ritual objects of the Italian Renaissance. A revised version of her dissertation, titled Early Modern Replicas of the Holy House of Loreto: Translating Space, was published by Routledge in 2025. Dr. Giffin has received prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at Villa I Tatti in Florence and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich. She has taught at Hamilton College and Skidmore College, and currently serves on the Editorial Board of Sculpture Journal. At William & Mary, Erin teaches courses on art of the European Renaissance and Baroque.
