Senior Research Colloquium (ARTH 493)

This is the required capstone seminar for Art History concentrators, with a focus on expanding and refining a research paper already written for an earlier art history course, and on the delivery of a related public presentation. This seminar is meant to introduce you to post-graduate or professional forms of art-historical work, giving you a preview of what it means to translate your work into the forms and standards of graduate school and professional contexts. The seminar culminates with a full-day colloquium that is open to the public and parents. The colloquium is launched by a keynote lecture delivered by a prominent scholar in the field. Students have also constructed of special websites to present their short biographies, paper abstracts and recorded presentations. This course is capped at 15 and runs every spring.

  • The AH major writing and computation requirement will be fulfilled through this course.
Senior Research Colloquium III

The 3rd annual Art History Senior Research Colloquium (spring 2021) welcomed 12 art history majors in the capstone seminar, under the guidance of Professor Xin Conan-Wu, who developed and refined in depth research on various topics, ranging from the historical to the contemporary. The Colloquium was launched by a Keynote Lecture, "The Future of Winckelmann's Classical Form: Walter Pater and Frederic Leighton" by Professor Elizabeth Prettejohn, University of York, UK.

Senior Research Colloquium II

The Senior Research Colloquium class (spring 2020), under the guidance of Professor Cristina Stancioiu, has developed and refined in-depth research into various topics, culminating in papers and formal presentations presented. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the colloquium was held for the first time, online.

Senior Research Colloquium I

The inaugural Senior Research Colloquium took place in spring 2019, under the guidance of Professor Charles Palermo. It was launched by a keynote Lecture, “Michelangelo’s Nemesis” by Professor Elena Calvillo, University of Richmond.
