Why W&M
When I first traveled to William & Mary my sophomore year of high school, I left my tour with the sense that I would be happy there. It was perfect weather, my tour guide was welcoming and shared a lot of my interests, and I loved the intimate, scholarly feel of the campus.
Having been born and raised in Northern Virginia, William & Mary was an obvious option as I built my college list, and its smaller size made it my top choice within Virginia’s many universities. I knew William & Mary would be a good choice, but I was still considering other schools and wasn’t certain if it was where I would end up.
I had never heard of the 1693 program before I received the email saying I was a semi-finalist, but it pushed me to start strongly considering William & Mary again. I was nervous entering finalist weekend, but my fears were quickly put to rest. The 1693 community was friendly and supportive, and I loved learning about each scholar’s unique interests and talents. The 1693s are an incredible collection of students who are constantly collaborating and inspiring each other.
The individualized attention that the 1693 Scholars Program offers and the amazing people at William & Mary ultimately led me to my college decision. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity!
