Study Abroad & Global Reach

Studying abroad lets you experience your education in a whole new context, and more than half of W&M students go abroad. By combining coursework with hands-on cultural experiences, you’ll challenge assumptions, explore possible career paths and build skills like cross-cultural communication, critical thinking and professional adaptability. The Global Education Office (GEO) at the Reves Center for International Studies coordinates all study abroad programs. With guidance from global education advisors, it’s easy to find a program that fits your interests and ambitions.

W&M also offers the Joint Degree Programme with the University of St Andrews in Scotland and the Global Scholars Program, where students spend a year traveling abroad, studying on campus and at the Washington Center. In addition to studying abroad, you can pursue a study away program (within the United States) including at the Washington Center in D.C.

Reves Center for International Studies

Authentic, out-of-the-box thinking comes from exposure to different cultures and experiences. The Reves Center for International Studies serves as the “hub” for international engagement at the university and is home to the Global Education Office and the Office of International Students, Scholars and Programs. The Reves Center develops, enriches and promotes the international dimensions of learning, teaching, research and civic engagement at William & Mary.

World Minded, the Reves Center for International Studies' biannual newsletter, contains articles and announcements on William & Mary's internationally focused programs and initiatives.

Hear from a Student

My study abroad class made me step out of my comfort zone. It was an anthropology class in Australia where we studied Aboriginal artwork through an anthropological lens. It was very much out of my comfort zone. I had to very much change my worldly perspective, and it made me think about how different other cultures are and still finding common denominators.

W&M's Washington Center

William & Mary’s Washington Center hosts more than 375 undergraduate students each year. Students from all majors can live, take classes and intern in Washington, D.C., during sessions ranging from a week to a semester with robust scholarship funding available.
