Embedding an Audio File
Embed your audio and provide the required transcript.
To place an embedded audio file player in the main region of a page or story follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Get the URL of an audio file
If you have an audio file you'd like to play and it is not already hosted on a site like Soundcloud (which you could link off to in your content or via a widget), upload it to a publicly accessible site like media.wm.edu. Copy the full URL of the audio file (ending in .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .aac, .ogg or .mpeg), including the "http://".
Step 2: Edit the page where you want to add the audio
Type the following directly into the Cascade editor substituting "audio-url" for the URL from step 1:
{{audio|audio-url}}
Note: The vertical bar you see in front of audio-url is often called a "pipe" and is located above the enter key on most keyboards. On some keyboards it looks like two vertical dashes.
Accessibility Requirement
If you embed audio-only content (like a podcast, music clip or a sound file without video) on your page, you must also provide a full text transcript. This transcript must be a complete text version of the audio, including all spoken words and clear descriptions of any important or meaningful sounds (for example: "[applause]" or "[music]"). Always place this transcript as a link or as text immediately following the audio player. Providing this transcript is required to make the content accessible for all users, especially those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
