W&M Faculty Led

These are programs led by W&M faculty members, where students receive direct W&M credit, typically ranging from 3 to 6 week in length and typically taking place in the summer or winter.

W&M Tuition Exchange & Assisted Enroll Programs

GEO administers exchange agreements with 15 international universities, which receive W&M students and send their students to our campus. W&M students apply for this study abroad through W&M, and pay regular W&M tuition and fees, plus a study abroad fee and the CISI insurance charge. Students pay for housing and meals in the host location. Students select available courses from the host university catalogue and earn transfer credit upon their return to W&M (grades are not posted on the W&M transcript).

W&M Sponsored Semester Programs

W&M students may study at several international universities with which the GEO has built special relationships.  For these programs, students pay one fixed program cost to study in the sponsored programs in Argentina, Spain, and England. The program cost is the same for in-state and out-of state residents.

La Plata and Sevilla coursework appears as William & Mary credit and grades on transcripts; students studying at Oxford earn transfer credit upon their return to W&M (grades are not posted on the W&M transcript).

W&M Embedded Programs

Embedded Programs are 3-credit W&M semester courses with a short international component incorporated. These programs are eligible for COLL300.

Sustainability and Climate Change Programs

You can explore programs offered by both William & Mary and Third Party Programs. We've assembled a list by destination.

Third Party Programs

W&M students with special interests or needs may opt for a study abroad program, either through another university or a third-party study abroad provider. Students work with Global Education advisors to identify the best program, and then apply and pay application fees directly to the provider and register with the GEO by the applicable deadline. A $375 off-campus fee will be posted to the student's W&M account.  Coursework appears as transfer credit and grades are not posted on transcripts.

Internships

There are several study abroad programs which offer part-time internships during a semester or summer.  These internships are typically imbedded into the curriculum of a seminar class and have an academic component for which credit will be awarded. Often the study abroad provider can offer a wide range of internship placements depending on interest.  Some internship options may require an additional fee.

Students are also required to maintain a full course load of the equivalent of 12 W&M credits while abroad for a semester. There is no minimum credit amount for summer study abroad, unless you receive financial aid.  In those cases, you must take a minimum of 6 credits.
