Holds
Why Do I Have a Hold?
Deans' offices and other departments typically place holds to obligate the student to turn in required paperwork or complete requirements or sanctions.
Financial holds are placed by Student Accounts only after the student has been notified. If you have questions about financial holds, contact [[w|bursar]] or 757-221-1220.
Holds typically prevent registration and degree conferral. If you have a hold, you must contact the office that placed the hold on your account and meet the conditions of the hold. After you have met the conditions of the hold, the hold will be removed by the office that placed it. The University Registrar's Office cannot remove holds placed by other offices.
If you have a registration-restricting hold on your record, you will not be allowed to register or make adjustments to your schedule until the hold is removed. Students will be able to build a cart if they have a hold, but the cart will not be processed.
For some offices, the removal of holds is an overnight process. Please allow enough time for your hold to be removed before your registration period begins.

During registration periods, hold messages display at the top of your registration cart in PATH. View the details of those holds by following the instructions above.
