Phone Number Management
In Teams Calls, phone numbers are attached to individuals, much like email addresses. This offers new opportunities to modernize how phone numbers are assigned and distributed at William & Mary.
New Employees
New staff and faculty at the university will automatically be assigned phone numbers. The employee will be notified of their new phone number via email. No request is needed.
Employees Changing Positions
Current employees will keep their phone numbers when they change positions on campus.
Departing Employees
Phone numbers will be automatically deleted when employees leave university. No request is needed. There will no longer be "vacant" numbers in departments.
However, if a department would like to hold on to the phone number (like if the number has been published, or is well-known for other reasons), we can accommodate that, but a request to [[support]] must be submitted.
Also, if special handling is needed for a phone number of a departed employee (like if the department doesn't want the number to be immediately deleted when the userid is deleted), submit a request to [[support]].
Affiliates & Students
Phone numbers can be requested for affiliates and students by emailing [[support]]. These numbers will also require a request to be deleted.
