The ultimate in convenience

Our Zipcars are conveniently located in high-demand areas and are self-service. They can easily be reserved online and accessed at any time. Zipcar offers a smartphone app that will allow you to make reservations, update changes, and even honk the horn to locate your Zipcar and unlock its doors.  Vehicles are currently available on Wake Drive and in the OD Lot off of James Blair Drive.

Student driving a ZipcarThe power of freedom and flexibility

Zipcars give students who don't have access to a car the freedom and flexibility to drive around town to pick up groceries, visit restaurants and local attractions, and participate in off-campus activities such as internships and job interviews. Members of the program can be proud that they are reducing their environmental impact by lowering their carbon footprint and using alternative transportation methods.

How does the Zipcar insurance policy work?

For Zipcar members 21 years of age or older, insurance coverage consists of a combined single limit of $300,000 per accident, meaning that all third party bodily injuries, or property damage costs relating to the accident are covered in the aggregate up to $300,000.

For drivers under 21, Zipcar provides coverage up to state-mandated levels, for Virginia that would be 25/50/20. The Zipcar vehicles are covered under a comprehensive vehicle collision policy. Members in this category may obtain additional coverage under personal insurance policies, or accident coverage provisions offered by your credit card company.

For both third party and Zipcar vehicle damage claims, the member may be responsible for a damage fee of up to $750 if they're involved in an incident during their reservation. Members age 21+, who have had no accidents in the last 12 months, have the option to purchase a damage fee waiver to reduce that amount or eliminate it altogether.

If you have any questions or concerns about the insurance coverage Zipcar provides and whether it works for your personal situation, we encourage you to consult with a licensed agent and put them in touch with us if needed. Insurance can be tricky and we want you to be informed. You can reach us at insurance@zipcar.com.
