About the Program

Sociology students study many of the major issues of the day, such as globalization, immigration, crime, technology, gender, racial inequalities and aging. The courses offered employ a wide variety of theories and methods in order to study societies. Faculty will provide you with the full range of empirical and theoretical tools to teach you to make sense of quantitative and qualitative approaches to research. The skills you will gain are valuable and marketable in many career paths.

In addition to preparing students for graduate programs in sociology, W&M provides an excellent liberal arts and sciences background for postgraduate and professional training. Sociology alumni pursue careers in public service and administration, law, business, medicine, journalism and many other professions.

Alumni Highlight

Renata Green-Streett '01 became the first woman and first Black person to serve on the Superior Court in Kent County, Delaware.
