Neal Cary Releases Video of Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 2

Neal Cary, performing artist faculty of cello and chamber music at the College of William & Mary, has released a video performance of the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 2.  This performance, along with a video lesson on this piece can be accessed through the links below.  The release of these videos follows two performances of this concerto in November of 2010 by Neal Cary and the Richmond Symphony.

The second cello concerto by Saint-Saens is almost never played due to its difficulty.  There are no edited versions of the music, and many cellists find fingerings and bowings for some of the more difficult passages daunting.  As a result, nearly all cellists choose not to learn this concerto.  These videos are the first and only ones of this work available to the public.  Professor Cary hopes that other cellists can take fingerings and bowings from the performance videos, and along with help from the video lesson, more cellists will learn and perform this great work.
