Background

Professor Donald J. Baxter has been with the Government department at the College since 1967. He earned his BA in Government and Economics from California State University at Sacramento and earned his MA and Ph. D. in Political Science from Syracuse University. Professor Baxter's primary interests are in South and Southeast Asian politics.  Upon retirement in May 2003, Professor Baxter was appointed Professor Emeritus.  

Upon retirement, the Baxter-Ward Fellowship was created by gifts from W&M alumni and friends.  This fellowship was named in honor of Professors Donald J. Baxter and Alan J. Ward.  The fellowship's purpose is to recognize outstanding alumni of the Government Department.
