BAM! (Birding And…Medicine!?!)

This Spring course builds on the writings of birdwatcher-physicians who have observed that the skills used to diagnose illness are also essential for identifying birds. Students will hone these abilities through early morning field experiences with campus birds, discussions with a local physician, and selected readings. Along the way, they’ll gather fresh perspectives and stories—perfect material for medical school essays and interviews, and perhaps, tools for becoming better physicians someday. The course features weekly field outings, classroom discussions of physician-authored writing, and is limited to about 10 students to ensure a hands-on experience.
