Graduate Student Initiatives
Advocating for the well-being, rights, and representation of all graduate students
The Graduate Council engages in advocacy initiatives that are best addressed by or that affect multiple graduate programs, or those which have campus-wide effects. In other words, those that are important to more than a single graduate school or program. Because representatives from each of the school’s governing student organizations sit on the graduate council, a single initiative can quickly reach all of the graduate student government organizations. A satisfaction survey is distributed periodically, most recently in Fall Semester 2025 focusing on how Graduate Council could better support graduate students as a whole.
Information is also compiled and available on community resources that are available to graduate students finding their home in Williamsburg and at W&M (see below).
Graduate council engages all graduate schools (and their individual governance boards) and is focused on communication, advocacy, and programming to meet the collective needs of graduate students at W&M. The Graduate Council provides a forum for connecting graduate students with like-minded individuals across the campus to work on campus-wide (or even just multi-grad-program) initiatives.
