Campus Comprehensive Plan
Background
The William & Mary Comprehensive Plan, guided by the university’s strategic plan, Vision 2026, provides a framework to guide future development of the university’s campuses and landholdings. The plan recommendations reflect a robust engagement process which provided the consultant team a detailed understanding of the university’s facility needs, strategic goals and other contingent issues to future development. While flexible in nature, the plan recommendations affirm W&M’s goals of academic excellence: student success, belonging, dynamic partnerships, resilient and sustainable land use, and financial sustainability.
Pillars
The Campus Comprehensive Plan is comprised of three core pillars. Each component serves to structure, integrate and provide context to more detailed planning efforts, as well as integrate the different elements that comprise the William & Mary campuses.
-
Learning Spaces
The Learning Space Plan establishes a path for the enhancement, investment and transformation of learning spaces at William & Mary.
-
Landscaping
The 100-Year Landscape Plan will become a living, adaptable roadmap — a framework to guide a phased approach to enhancing the physical campus in ways that are deliberate, inclusive and impactful.
-
Housing & Dining
Established in 2022, this long-term, comprehensive plan aims to modernize and revitalize William & Mary's residential and dining facilities. The project advances the integration of living and learning on campus.
Batten School & VIMS
The planning effort at William & Mary's Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences & VIMS focuses on integrating recently built buildings with proposed plan and climate change projections in order to create a cohesive and resilient plan.
Implementation
The Phasing & Implementation Plan provides recommendations for project prioritization and sequencing over the next five, 10, 25 and 50-plus years.
