Quality Assurance Module
Acquia Web Governance (formerly known as Optimize) accounts are currently only available to Cascade Managers and designated points of contact in the 2025 Cascade Content Cleanup project.
The Acquia Web Governance quality assurance module helps you to review broken links and misspellings, and provides insights into your content's readability.
Access Quality Assurance
- Log in to Acquia Web Governance.
- Select your domain or group name, or the Open button, to access the Dashboard.
- Select Quality Assurance. This brings you to the Summary screen.
Broken Links
Find Broken Links
- From the Summary screen, select Links > Content with Broken Links. This view lists all pages in your group or domain on which a broken link was detected during the most recent weekly scan.
- Sort the results using the Views column to focus your efforts first on pages or documents that receive more views.
- Next to each page or document listed you will find additional information:
- Select Open document/page details (folder icon) for more details.
- Select Inspect page with browser extension (mag glass icon) for assistance locating the broken link while viewing the page. If you have the browser extension installed, this will open the page in your browser and the Acquia Web Governance information panel will slide out from the side. Select the Highlight button (mag glass icon) or HTML button (</>) to locate the broken link.
Tip: You can also use the browser extension while viewing any of your webpages while logged in to Acquia Web Governance to see the latest scan data about the page.
Fix or Remove Broken Links
- For pages, edit it in Cascade to update or remove the broken link. Publish the page.
- For documents, take this opportunity to consider if the information in the document still needs to be included on your website.
- If it does not, thoughtfully delete it.
- If it does, consider including the content on your website as a webpage instead of as a document. Cascade webpages are more accessible for those using assistive technology and easier for your visitors to view across their devices — using PDFs or other files can create unnecessary barriers between your visitors and your content. PDFs are also particularly difficult to update.
- If you determine a document still needs to be included on the website:
- Outside of Cascade, locate and edit the original document. For PDFs, if you do not have licensed Adobe software to edit PDFs, this can require locating the original Word document initially used to create it.
- Once updated, follow Cascade instructions for replacing documents to minimize broken links.
Mark Links as Fixed (Optional)
- In Acquia Web Governance you can mark broken links as Set to fixed if helpful – this removes them from the current report list, but future scans will check them again and include them in the report if broken.
- Do not select Mark as ignored as this prevents future scans from checking the link which may lead to broken links going undetected in future scans.
Spellcheck
Find Misspellings
- From the Quality Assurance Summary screen, select Spellcheck > Pages with Misspellings. This view lists all pages in your group or domain on which a misspelling (or potential misspelling) was detected during the most recent weekly scan.
- Sort the results using the Views column to focus your efforts first on pages or documents that receive more views.
- Next to each page or document listed you will find additional information:
- Select Open document/page details (folder icon) for more details and options.
- Select Inspect page with browser extension (mag glass icon) for assistance locating all misspellings while viewing the page. If you have the browser extension installed, this will open the page in your browser and the Acquia Web Governance information panel will slide out from the side. Select the Highlight button (mag glass icon) or HTML button (</>) to locate the affected content.
Tip: You can also use the browser extension while viewing any of your webpages while logged in to Acquia Web Governance to see the latest scan data about the page.
Ignoring or Adding Words to the Dictionary
- Please be thoughtful in your choices. These actions apply to all groups and domains in W&M's Acquia Web Governance license – W&M, schools, libraries and Advancement properties.
- These actions have similar results and both can be undone if necessary:
- For proper nouns you can select an action of Ignore misspelling
- For other words you can select an action of Add to dictionary
- Don't worry if you have selected the reverse actions (ignore vs. add). The outcome is similar and in both cases:
- The words will no longer appear in your (or anyone's) reports.
- They will not be captured in future scans.
- Do not ignore or add terms to the dictionary that could lead to other common misspellings. For example, don't ignore or add terms like "th" as it would cause misspellings of "the" to go undetected.
Managing the Ignored Misspellings and Dictionary
University Web & Design will periodically review the Ignored Misspellings and Dictionary lists to remove any terms that we think could lead to other common misspellings going undetected.
