Policies Module
Acquia Web Governance (formerly known as Optimize) accounts are currently only available to Cascade Managers and designated points of contact in the 2025 Cascade Content Cleanup project.
The Acquia Web Governance policies module helps you to review and remediate potential editorial or brand errors. We recommend the Content with Policy Matches view which provides a list of pages in your domain or group that have issues to review.
Note: Currently there is one policy in place for most domains: correct brand use of the university's name. Additional policies may be added.
Access Content with Policy Matches
- Log in to Acquia Web Governance.
- Select your domain or group name, or the Open button, to access the Dashboard.
- Select Policies. This brings you to the Summary screen.
- Select Content with Policy Matches. This view lists all pages on which an editorial policy was detected during the most recent weekly scan.
- Sort the results using the Views column to focus your efforts first on pages or documents that receive more views.
- Next to each page or document listed you will find additional information:
- Select Open page/document details (folder icon) for more details.
- Select Inspect page with browser extension (mag glass icon) for assistance locating the reported policy issue while viewing the page — see below for further instructions.
Locate Issues on Webpages Using the Browser Extension
If you have the browser extension installed:
- Follow steps 1-6, above, and select the mag glass icon by each page in the list (see Screenshot 1, below). This will open the page in your browser and the Acquia Web Governance information panel will slide out from the side.
- Select Show Rules to expand the policy details (see Screenshot 2, below). Note: Policies flag potential violations using a series of search rules for select word combinations — false positives will occur and require your review.
- Select the mag glass icon by each rule to begin highlighting the flagged content on the page (see Screenshot 3, below). Tip: If your page includes collapsed or hidden content, first expand the content.
- Review the flagged content and evaluate if it is a brand violation by reviewing the University Brand Hub.
- If appropriate, edit the page in Cascade to ensure brand compliance and publish.

Locate Issues in Documents Using the Browser Extension
If you have the browser extension installed:
- Follow steps 1-6, above, and select the mag glass icon by each page in the list (see Screenshot 1, above). This will open the page in your browser and the Acquia Web Governance information panel will slide out from the side.
- Select Show Rules to expand the policy details (see Screenshot 2, above).
- The browser extension is not able to highlight the flagged content in PDFs and other documents. Try these methods instead:
- Read the flagged rules to see what word combinations it has identified in the document and use your built in browser search functionality to highlight the keywords in the text — place your cursor in the body of the document and use Control+F on PC or Command+F on Mac to search the page.
- Select the HTML button (</>) by each rule and the extension will try to locate the word combinations in the source code of the document. While you may not be familiar with html, you may see context clues that will help you then find the words in the document.
- If you confirm the document contains a style violation:
- Take this opportunity to consider if the information in the document still needs to be included on your website.
- If it does not, delete it.
- If it does, consider including the content on your website as a webpage instead of as a document. Cascade webpages are more accessible for those using assistive technology and easier for your visitors to view across their devices — using PDFs or other files can create unnecessary barriers between your visitors and your content. PDFs are also particularly difficult to update.
- If you determine the document needs to be included on the website:
- Outside of Cascade, locate and edit the original document. For PDFs, if you do not have licensed Adobe software to edit PDFs, this may require locating the original Word document initially used to create it.
- Once updated, follow Cascade instructions for replacing documents to minimize broken links.
- Take this opportunity to consider if the information in the document still needs to be included on your website.
