William & Mary’s history gives us a unique perspective on the importance and meaning of leadership and civic engagement in a democracy. Often referred to as the “Alma Mater of the Nation,” we are in the unique position to be a national model for civic leadership.
The William & Mary vision statement implores us to cultivate the development of the next great leaders. It reads:

Fortunately, you have several years to explore all of the various ways you can get involved at William & Mary! No decisions have to be made overnight and no resume of experiences is created in your first semester. So take your time. Explore events happening across campus. Be curious about what motivates you. Identify your values. Hone in on your passions. Pursue them heartily.

Campus Organizations & ProgramsBeing an engaged citizen of our campus happens whether you join one of the university's 500+ Recognized Clubs & Organizations, take on a titled leadership role within Student Assembly or decide you want to be behind-the-scenes making magic happen for other students with AMP. Civic & Community EngagementMany of the opportunities coordinated by the Civic and Community Engagement are partnerships with non-profit and civic organizations across the region. Take the opportunity to get involved in alternative breaks, Service Saturdays, Williamsburg Engagement, and youth development programs. |
Religious & Spiritual ResourcesCampus Ministries United (CMU) is a multi-faith coalition of spiritual leaders affiliated with campus religious groups at William & Mary. Although they are not university employees, these leaders bring together diverse faiths and gifts allowing CMU to serve as a point of convergence for shared experiences such as opportunities for worship, service, fellowship, recreation and education. |
Colonial WilliamsburgWilliam & Mary is uniquely situated next to Colonial Williamsburg (CW), a living history museum that offers a glimpse into life in early American history. As a William & Mary student, you have the distinct privilege of enjoying unlimited free admission to Colonial Williamsburg. This means you can visit the historic area, including its museums, taverns, and tradespeople, as often as you like. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply want to experience a unique atmosphere, Colonial Williamsburg offers something for everyone. Students also enjoy a variety of discounts at CW shops. |
