The Office of Student Transition Engagement Programs (STEP) was previously known as the Office of First Year Experience. STEP supports the transition of students into and through their W&M community experience by providing services, outreach, and support encompassed within our New Student Orientation, Find Your Experience, and Form Your Experience programs.
New Students Arriving Fall 2021
Congratulations on your decision to attend William & Mary! We are excited to welcome you to the Tribe and to help you make the most of your time at the university.
Step 1: Go to the Tribe Guide
The Tribe Guide will open May 1, 2021 at 12 Noon (Eastern) and lead you step-by-step through everything needing to be accomplished prior to arriving on campus in August. More information will arrive in your W&M G Suite email inbox shortly after.
Step 2: Make Note of the Orientation & Welcome Activities
Make a note that your required New Student Orientation is tentatively slated for Friday, August 27 - Tuesday, August 31. The first day of fall classes and Opening Convocation immediately follows on Wednesday, September 1.
During the week of August 23, 2021 and prior to the start of orientation, new students residing on campus will move into their residence hall room assignment. Blended welcome activities for new residential students will begin at their time of move-in. New fall semester students living off-campus should plan to participate in required orientation activities throughout that designated time frame as well.
Step 3: Review the Fall Orientation Schedule
All students entering for the fall 2021 semester are required to attend the New Student Orientation Program. A draft of the Fall 2021 New Student & Family Orientation schedule will be available mid-May. In the meantime, the Fall 2020 New Student Orientation Schedule is available as a point of reference.
If you have any questions about your transition to W&M or the orientation program, contact Student Transition Engagement Programs. We are here to help!
