About Maho
My name is Maho, and I am a second-year Ph.D. student in History at William & Mary. I was born and raised in Japan. My research focuses on twentieth-century transnational history in the Pacific.
I decided to join ISAB because I want international students to thrive—not just survive—during their time at W&M. As I previously worked abroad and began my doctoral journey at W&M, I have navigated many challenges. I am grateful for the supportive community at W&M and for campus resources that have strengthened my academic and professional development. Those experiences inspired me to support other international students.
As an ISAB member, I hope to serve as an empathetic intermediary between international students and W&M campus resources. I also hope to help create opportunities for students to learn from role models, such as international alumni and faculty, so international students can develop and pursue their academic, professional, and personal goals with greater confidence.
