Graduation

Our office is responsible for the academic side of graduation. Along with our colleagues in the professional schools, we confirm degree requirements have been met, grades are posted and diplomas are prepared for the spring Commencement exercises as well as the winter and summer graduates. We also manage undergraduate degree requirements. For graduate degree requirements, please contact the appropriate graduate school.

A one-time, non-refundable Graduation Fee will be charged to your student account. To view an itemized list of fees, visit the Tuition & Fees webpage.

The Commencement fee funds all expenses related to W&M’s graduation — audio-visual support and production, equipment rentals (eg. staging, chairs, tables, tents, golf carts), the printing of programs and diplomas, police and security, transportation and parking support, catering costs, additional special-event staffing, etc. Monies collected through the Commencement fee are what constitute the whole budget used for planning and executing Commencement at W&M (including also our mid-year recognition event for winter graduates.)

Please note, if you have a hold on your record, you will not be able to use the online application until the hold is removed.

"No Curricula" Error?

If you are trying to use the online application and receive a "No Curricula..." error, that means Banner has an expected graduation term as something other than 2026.

  • Undergraduates should contact Wendy Urbano, the Graduation Coordinator, at 757-221-2807 or [[w|degreeaudit]]; she will make the adjustment so that you can file online.
  • Graduate Students who receive a "No Curricula" error should contact the Graduate Registrar for their program for assistance.

Missed the Deadline?

Failure to apply to graduate before the deadline may impact: the number of Commencement tickets available to you, inclusion of your name in the Commencement program and the awarding of your degree. Please apply by the deadline. If you miss the deadline, undergraduate students must [[w|degreeaudit, contact Wendy Urbano - Graduation Coordinator]], to discuss options for filing late.

Graduate students in Arts & Science, Business, Education, Law, and Batten School & VIMS should contact their Graduate Registrar’s office for information on filing late.
