Office of the Chief Data Officer
The Office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) strengthens how William & Mary understands, manages, and uses data. The CDO provides strategic leadership for the university’s data ecosystem—aligning people, processes, and technology so that institutional data is accurate, trusted, accessible, and used responsibly. By guiding university-wide governance, enabling collaboration across academic and administrative areas, and shaping W&M’s long-term data direction, the CDO helps create a campus culture where data confidently supports decisions, operations, and innovation.
The CDO Data Team brings together Data & Analytics and Data Governance, working as one coordinated function. The team includes core staff as well as matrixed partners from functional offices who serve on the Data Governance Advisory Council (DGAC) and its sub teams; the Data Governance Team (DGT), the Data & Analytics Team (D&AT), and the Data Quality Team (DQT, focused on Banner duplicate resolution). This collaborative structure ensures shared stewardship, aligned practices, and consistent data across the university.
