Reserve a Lab

Technology Enhanced Learning Facilities

Follow these instructions to reserve a lab for classroom instruction:

First, check the software, hardware, and other specifications of the labs you are interested in using (see list of eligible labs below). If you need course-specific software other than what is available, email [[support]]. Please include as much information as possible about the requested software. Because lab software is installed during semester breaks, advance notice is required. Faculty are responsible for supplying the disks, licenses, and any documentation and support that the students may need.

Select a lab from the list below:

The lab you request may already be reserved. All lab reservations are made on a first come, first served basis.

A/V Equipment

If you need A/V equipment, please contact Classroom Support at 757-221-3011. Please make your requests as far in advance as possible. Note! If you are a student, you MUST have a professor submit the request or call 757-221-3011 providing an account number to charge in case of equipment damage, their name, and department.

A week before the first class, go to the lab, log on and try out the software you intend to use. If you have any problems, email [[support]] or call the TSC at 757-221-4357 (HELP). Also, whenever possible, have your students visit the lab and try to log in several days before the first class. If they cannot log on, they should call 757-221-4357 or bring their William & Mary ID to the TSC in Jones Room 201. Attempting to log in before the first day of class will avoid delays if a user is having password troubles.

Because of the heavy usage of lab computers, there will be times when a machine or two will be down. Depending on the size of your class, this may mean that students will double up on computers.

If you discover a machine that is malfunctioning, please call 221-HELP (4357) with the following information:

  • building and room number
  • number of the computer (usually located on the monitor)
  • a brief description of the problem

Please keep in mind that when 15-20 students are accessing the same piece of software over the network at the same time, response times can be considerably slower than if one or two students are trying to use it. If students will be printing documents at the end of a lab session, it is a good idea to begin printing 5 to 10 minutes before the class is over. Please take into account that students pay 7 cents per page when printing.

If your students are guests (not currently students, or W&M faculty/staff)
  • A guest account will have to be created in advance. Please request this with your reservation.
  • Please test guest accounts prior to class to avoid last minute problems.
  • Encourage your guests to bring their own storage devices. They can save files to the Temp and Programs directories of the local computer, but there is no guarantee that those files will still be there when they come back.
  • Guest accounts will not have space on the server unless it is requested in advance.
