Biography
Lydia Slater is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her passion for the outdoors started from a young age attending summer camp on Lake Erie. On campus, she co-captains the Women’s B Ultimate Frisbee team, works at the W&M boathouse, and sings in the Cleftomaniacs acapella group.
As a researcher in the 2025 Year-Long Conservation Research Program. Lydia participated in the research project "From forest floor to treetops: Capturing mammalian diversity wih camera traps" for which she traveled to Palawan, Philippines and worked with another W&M student and two Palawan State University students to set up camera traps and record data on mammalian diversity. The project aims to support local and indigenous communities to lobby for the conservation of their lands and the protection of Palawan’s invaluable biodiversity.
As a member of the IIC Student Leadership Council, she hopes to help peers learn more about conservation by encouraging them to get involved with IIC events and to increase her own contributions to the conservation community. After graduating, she plans to work in the field of conservation biology.
