Biography

Carolina (Carol) Jordão is an environmental social scientist and facilitator from Brazil. For more than 15 years, she has worked on environmental governance, community engagement, and leadership development in the Amazon Rainforest and other regions. Carol holds a PhD in Tropical Conservation and Development from the University of Florida, where her research examined the cultural and organizational factors shaping the work of socio-environmental NGOs in the Brazilian Amazon, including funding, collaboration, social learning, and organizational identity.

Carol has extensive experience designing and implementing interdisciplinary projects with local and international NGOs, universities, and as an independent consultant. She uses qualitative research methods, environmental education and communication, and facilitation to support collaborative processes that engage diverse stakeholders and strengthen local capacity to address complex socio-ecological challenges.

Before joining IIC, Carol served as a Research Scientist at Arizona State University (ASU), where she conducted community-engaged research with water-insecure communities and served as Director of the Arizona Water for All Network (2025–2026). She is also the co-founder of the consulting group Coletivo Passiflora Socioambiental, a co-facilitator of the Amazon Capacity Building (RECAM) Network, a member of the content committee for the Wildlife Conservation Network's Rising Wildlife Leaders – Amazonia Program, and an Adjunct Faculty member at Arizona State University.
