2022-2023

Education & Scholarship relates to the ways in which curriculum, teaching, research, scholarship, and employee and student development contribute to our passion for discovery, innovation, community engagement, service and social justice. Programs and processes in this dimension include intentionally designed curricula and pedagogies, as well as targeted professional development activities, that promote intercultural awareness and competence.

Goal: Engage students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community in learning varied perspectives of domestic and international diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.

DEI Learning

Offer courses, curricula, events and learning opportunities at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels that achieve DEI learning goals

  • Mobilize W&M's world-wide network of university partnerships and broaden learning experiences for current prospective students
  • Rekindle and model civil discourse, convening disparate views to advance democratic values
  • Hire faculty with expertise with inclusive teaching
  • Build opportunities for students to learn about multiple identities and cultures
  • Strengthen W&M's research ecosystem to spark new discovery
  • Provide multifaceted opportunities for faculty, staff and students on topics around democracy
Cultural Competencies

Increase the cultural competencies of faculty, staff and students

  • Launch Inclusive Teaching Course with optional in-person sessions
  • Expand the expertise and awareness of faculty and staff of the needs of diverse students (i.e. neurodiversity)
  • Assist faculty and instructional graduate students in assessing diversity-related learning goals for accessibility
