Spring Pathway Options
William & Mary will offer students on our first-year student waitlist a pathway to spring admission if they meet the requirements specified below while completing one full-time semester at a public community or junior college (including but not limited to, Richard Bland College or a Virginia Community College), or selecting an academic study abroad opportunity with Verto Education. Spring Pathway options are available to eligible in-state, out-of-state and international students. Learn more about eligibility in the FAQ section below.

Timeline & Requirements
Beginning around mid-May of each year, waitlisted first-year students remaining on the waitlist will need to fulfill the following requirements by the stated deadlines to qualify for spring admission to William & Mary:
Between April-June
Students should continue to respond to any communication from W&M to remain on the waitlist, for potential fall admission consideration.
We welcome waitlisted first-year students to join us for one of our Virtual Spring Pathway Information Sessions to help you explore the community college and study abroad options:
- Thursday, May 15, 6-7pm ET
- Thursday, May 29, 6-7pm ET
These webinars will be eligible for registration in the student's applicant portal in late April.
Verto Education will also be hosting Virtual Open House events in April & May.
Between Mid-May and June 15
Students remaining on the waitlist will need to submit the Spring Pathway intent form located on the Waitlist Tab of their W&M Application Status Portal. This is non-binding, and you can choose to no longer pursue the spring pathway at any point. Students who complete the intent form can still be considered for potential selection for fall admission.
For students pursuing the Verto option, please work with Verto directly to enroll by their location deadlines. In the event students are selected from the waitlist over the summer for fall admission, they are eligible to receive a deposit refund from Verto.
Between June-July
For students pursuing the community college option, we strongly encourage they schedule a zoom appointment with Senior Assistant Dean Monica Pinier for transferable course recommendations at your local community college.
July 15
Deadline to submit your official final high school transcript that reflects your graduation date to William & Mary Undergraduate Admission. Students must demonstrate continued strong academic standing. Final senior grades below a C will disqualify the student from pursuing this pathway.
August
For students who have completed the Spring Pathway intent form, our office will follow up with an online form to re-open your first-year student application during this month.
Enroll in (and complete) at least 12 credits (full-time semester) in the fall from a public community/junior college or one of the three approved abroad locations from Verto Education. Attendance at a four-year institution is not an approved option for this spring pathway.
Earn at least a 3.0 GPA with 12 or more semester credits with no individual grade below a C- for the fall semester.
September 15
Deadline to submit the form to re-open your freshman application (Spring Pathway students do not need to complete another Common Application).
October 28
Deadline to upload your estimated semester grade progress by completing the mid-term report or using a screenshot of your online learning portal (such as your Canvas or Blackboard dashboard).
For Verto students in good standing, Verto will submit your mid-term grades on your behalf.
Mid-November
Official offers of admission to William & Mary will be sent to those who submitted satisfactory mid-semester grades. All offers of admission are contingent on continued satisfactory academic standing.
Early December
Financial Aid Awards will be available on the student's account. Students can also review their transfer credit evaluations of any previously submitted AP/IB/CLEP scores or dual enrollment credit. Credit from the fall semester will be available within 4 weeks of receiving the official fall semester transcript (by February 2026).
December 15
Deadline to submit the enrollment deposit. Please note that students will only have access to the housing application once a deposit has been submitted.
December-January
After depositing, students will be working on their Tribe Guide Checklist items and pre-orientation modules to prepare for each phase of their course registration and prepare for move-in and in-person orientation.
January 10
Deadline to have received the official college transcript reflecting fall grades. This is required to ensure students have met the GPA and credit minimum requirement. The Transfer Credit Coordinator will begin the transfer credit evaluation, which can take up to 4 weeks from receiving the official transcript.
For Verto students in good standing, Verto will submit the final/official college transcript on your behalf.
Spring Pathway students must have continued to maintain high standards of personal and academic conduct. For Community/Junior College participants, please complete the student/applicant portion of the College Report and then forward it to your institution's Registrar or Dean of Students (or similar) to complete the college official portion and return it to us (email to transfer@wm.edu or upload to the W&M applicant portal).
For Verto students in good standing, Verto will submit the College Report on your behalf.
January 16
Students will move into their residence halls in the morning, and in-person orientation will follow with a variety of sessions and exciting events each day through Tuesday, January 20.
January 21
First day of Spring 2026 classes!
