Features of the Website

A Little History

  • On July 31, 2008, a comprehensive W&M website was launched with a new information architecture, new design, new writing, new photography and was published using Cascade Server, a new web content management system.
  • W&M News offers a look back at previous W&M web designs.
  • In March 2012, a refreshed W&M homepage was introduced using modern design, more contrast, responsive design technology, added content and new features.
  • In July 2013, the entire W&M website was made responsive, making it more accessible on any device.
  • In February 2015, a new design for the W&M website was released to reflect the university's new visual identity, prominently incorporating W&M's primary logo.
  • In July 2020, a new homepage and secondary page design was launched. The new design for secondary pages enabled them to support current content as well as begin a phased approach to page redesigns using new full-width rows and page templates. In addition, a new People of W&M section was released.
  • In November 2024, a new homepage was launched that includes prominent admission call-to-action links, a larger video presentation, an admission-focused section with photography featuring students, curated images from W&M’s Instagram feed, and redesigned rows highlighting key university statistics and academic programs.
  • In May 2025, the university kicked off a Digital Footprint project to reimagine the university's web presence. The first major step in the project includes a content review and cleanup to be completed by December 2025. The content review work continued with an emphasis on accessibility compliance in advance of the April 24, 2024 federal and state compliance deadline.
