Funding Support

A key role of the provost is to identify and allocate support and resources for high priority initiatives that advance the university. Several key resources that the provost has developed in support of faculty include the following:

Vision 2026 Faculty Innovators Initiative

This initiative encourages new faculty-driven projects that advance the four pillars of the strategic plan: data, water, democracy and careers. The initiative helps faculty members drive from idea to fruition with staged check-ins that test and reward the projects across five stages. Rewards and project support escalate over the course of the phases.

Interdisciplinary Research Innovation Fund: Focus on the Arts & Humanities

Established by the provost to maintain excellence in research, support innovation in emerging areas of scientific and societal interest, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the funding supports new exploratory endeavors that lead to innovative, multiple-PI research proposals.  All William & Mary full-time faculty are eligible to apply for these grants.

Mid-level Academic Leaders Start-up Funding

Effective mid-level faculty academic leaders are vital to William & Mary’s positive, inclusive working environment. The provost supports their development through a series of workshops centered on exploring personal leadership skills, acquiring the tools necessary to be effective and visionary leaders, and building a community and network of support for faculty with leadership aspirations.

Faculty Fellows Program

The Reveley Fellows program facilitates faculty commitment to the interdisciplinary teaching and research that is a hallmark of William & Mary. All full-time, continuing faculty may apply in teams of two with a proposal for a joint project. Those selected will collaboratively design and teach a new course and develop a concomitant research project.
