Service & Leadership

At William & Mary, service and leadership are central to our mission of cultivating responsible, engaged citizens.

Through the offices of Civic & Community Engagement, Student Leadership Development and many other organizations on and off campus, students are encouraged to actively contribute to society and develop skills that will enable them to make a positive impact in their communities. How will you get involved?

W&M's Tradition of Service

The university’s focus on integrity, collaboration and social responsibility prepares graduates to lead with empathy and make meaningful contributions on both local and global scales.

Ways to Get Involved

Opportunities to get involved in service abound at W&M. You can lead your student club, work in residence life, join a board or council, become a confidential peer advocate and more.

W&M GivePulse is the university's online platform and central hub that connects campus and community by sharing opportunities, facilitating new partnerships and offering resources to students, community organizations, staff and faculty.

Student Funding & Awards

Several student funding options are available to support your community-engaged projects and internships. Students, faculty and community partners can also be recognized with awards for their active citizenship and exemplary community engagement. Incoming first-year students can even be awarded a scholarship for their leadership achievements.

Celebrated for Service

“Having the opportunity to engage so deeply with the Williamsburg community has by far been one of the biggest highlights of my time at William & Mary. I’ve been able to grow relationships with local nonprofits, community members from diverse backgrounds and students who share my passion for service.’’
