Ivan Lyashenko
Director, Student Financial Services & Automation
What are some of your duties?
I manage the overall operations of the Bursar’s Office, overseeing key functional areas including Student Accounts services, Collections and Receivables, and Cashiering services. This includes ensuring timely and accurate billing and payment processing for student tuition and fees, managing outstanding receivables and collection efforts, and daily cashiering operations. I work closely with cross-departmental teams to support financial transparency, enhance the student experience, and continuously improve operational efficiency.
What is your role in the Workday project?
I serve as the lead for the Customer Accounts functional area, which is a new product aimed at managing the university’s miscellaneous receivables, such as non-student-related charges and departmental billings. In this role, I work closely with cross-functional teams to define business requirements, streamline processes, and ensure the system effectively supports the diverse needs of campus departments.
Additionally, I serve as the functional lead for the integration of the Banner Student Accounts system and the CORE iPayment cashiering system with Workday. This includes collaborating with technical teams to design and test integration points, ensuring data accuracy and consistency, and helping guide the transition to Workday in a way that minimizes disruption while enhancing overall functionality and user experience.
What are you looking forward to following the adoption of Workday?
I'm looking forward to improved efficiency and a more seamless experience across key HR and finance processes. With Workday’s centralized platform, I expect better visibility into data, more consistent workflows, and fewer manual tasks—freeing up time to focus on more strategic initiatives. I’m also excited about the real-time analytics and reporting features, which should help with faster, more informed decision-making.
What is something you would like the W&M community to know about the project that they might not know?
The Customer Account module is a powerful new tool that will enhance most campus departments that do business with outside customers. It will streamline the management of miscellaneous receivables by centralizing billing, payments, and account tracking. It will also enhance efficiency through automation, reduce manual work, and improve accuracy across departments. With real-time visibility, seamless integration with other Workday financial modules, and robust reporting tools, it supports better decision-making, compliance, and customer service—all while being customizable to fit the unique needs of a university environment.
