Modernizing & Revitalizing the Residential Experience

William & Mary has initiated a long-term, comprehensive plan to modernize and revitalize its residential and dining facilities. The project, which aligns with the goals of Vision 2026, spans three phases to address aging residence and dining halls and ensure they advance the integration of living and learning on campus.

This animated rendering by VMDO Architects out of Charlottesville, Va., showcases the residence walk in front Pine Hall. The project, part of an agreement with Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, includes adding four new residence halls and a dining hall.

Current Projects

Facilities reaching the end of their useful lives are being replaced with modern facilities that include shared and flexible social and study spaces, current and upgradable technology and modern climate-control systems. The University Architect and Student Affairs are leading the multi-phase implementation. Select a project to see more, including costs and projected timelines.

Housing & Dining Timeline

The phased project began with a new building to complete the Lemon-Hardy triangle plus residential and dining facilities in West Campus, along with renovations of Monroe and Old Dominion halls.

Summer 2023

Construction began on West 1 Housing & Dining. Renovations began on Monroe Hall. Yates Hall demolished.

Spring 2024

Construction began on Cedar Hall, completing the Lemon-Hardy triangle.

Fall 2024

Renovations began on Old Dominion Hall. Renovated Monroe Hall opened.

Fall & Spring 2025

Cedar, Maple, Oak, Old Dominion, Pine and Poplar halls all opened.

Fall 2026

West Woods Dining opens.
