About Us

The Global Innovation Challenge (WMGIC) is the premier intercollegiate hackathon-style international and sustainable development case competition aimed at encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration to create innovative solutions for current global issues.

Established in 2017, WMGIC provides undergraduate students worldwide a platform for open collaboration and discussion with peers, faculty, and knowledgeable professionals to analyze and create sustainable and scalable solutions. The competition increases students' knowledge about the case study, design thinking, holistic sustainability, innovative processes, and policy entrepreneurship.

Teams of three to five indicate a preference among the governance, social entrepreneurship, technology, and business consulting streams of problem-solving, work with mentors, and present proposals to industry judges within 24 hours. Top teams are chosen as finalists, give public presentations, and receive cash prizes.

WMGIC is a recognized student organization at William & Mary and featured by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the International Conference on Sustainable Development.

WMGIC x WGC Collaboration

With the direct assistance of Dr. Kathryn H. Floyd,  WMGIC is partnering with the Whole of Government Center of Excellence (WGC) for this particular event. This center on campus aims to promote and develop important discussions and relationships between students and national security. As a collaborative team, Dr. Floyd has graciously provided not only her expert advice and knowledge on the matter but has also granted us the opportunity to work directly with the Studio for Teaching and Learning (STLI) as well as the Reves Center for International Studies.
