Learn to Swim
Kids Group Swim Lessons
Kids Group Swim Lessons are available to children ages four and up of William & Mary Faculty and Staff and to the Williamsburg community. Our trained swim instructors will help your child develop lifesaving swimming skills and build their level of comfort in the water. Our small group sessions meet for 25 minutes each Sunday for four weeks.
Lessons are held at Adair Hall, located at 251 Ukrop Way.
During the first class, swim instructors assess the skills of your child for placement in Level 1, 2, or 3.
Level 1: Brand new to swim lessons and has little or no experience in the pool. This level will work on submerging underwater, breath control, bobbing in the water, and floating.
Level 2: Child is already able to submerge underwater with their face in and demonstrate breath control, child can already float on their front and their back independently. In this level, we will develop kicking, gliding, and jumping into the pool and returning to the side without assistance.
Level 3: Child can jump into water over their head, resurface, and swim a short distance independently without assistance. In this level, we will begin teaching freestyle swimming with rollover and side breathing, along with elementary backstroke and treading water.
