In-Service Death

Death in Service

Information for Supervisors

Supervisors should notify University Human Resources immediately upon learning on an employee's death. UHR will guide you through the necessary steps, including:

  • Assisting with communication to the employee's department and family
  • Ensuring final timesheets and leave reports are submitted
  • Coordinating return of university property and system access removal
Supervisors should refrain from contacting benefit providers directly and instead route all inquiries through the UHR benefits team to ensure compliance with privacy and state regulations.

Additional Support

Losing a colleague or a loved one can be an emotional time. Employees and family members are encouraged to reach out to available support resources, including the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), for counseling and grief support.
