Memorandum of Understanding
An MOU is one type of document that may be used as a formal written agreement to meet the Guide statement regarding collaborations. The purpose of a formal written agreement is to address the responsibilities for animal care and use and avoid ambiguities that can lead to noncompliance and animal welfare concerns. The template is intended to prevent problems and misunderstandings which could negatively impact research animals.
Please follow the link to access W&M's MOU Template. Please fill out the required information and submit to this Qualtrics form to manage receiving signatures.
Interinstitutional Assurance
The Interinstitutional Assurance is a type of Animal Welfare Assurance issued by OLAW to an awardee institution that does not have its own:
- animal care and use program
- facilities to house animals
- Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); and
- does not conduct animal research on-site.
If you would like to collaborate with a PI from a non-assured institution, you will be required to fill out the Interinstitutional Assurance and send it to researchcompliance@wm.edu so signatures can be gathered. A signed version of the completed Interinstitutional Assurance will then need to be sent to olawdoa@mail.nih.gov. There are two versions of this document that can be used based on where the research is being performed:
