Reporting Injuries
All individuals injured while working in the animal facility are required to report injury immediately to supervisor. All injuries are also reported to EH&S.
To report a workplace accident or injury, the employee and supervisor must complete all required documents on the University Human Resources Workers' Compensation webpage and submit them to Human Resources as directed.
Seeking Medical Care:
Students:
- For students who are not employees, a “Student Accident Form” is completed and can seek care from Student Health Center, Urgent Care, or Hospital Emergency Room.
- For students who are employees, see a panel physician approved by UHR Worker's Compensation or seek immediate care from a hospital emergency room (depending on severity of injury).
Staff/Faculty:
See a panel physician approved by UHR Worker's Compensation or seek immediate care from a hospital emergency room (depending on severity of injury).
Accidents and injuries occurring outside of urgent care hours are advised to seek care from the local emergency room if necessary.
Animal Bites
When reporting an animal bite, please follow the procedures listed below.
- Control bleeding
- Cleanse wound
- Bandage
- Animal bites are to be immediately reported to the IACUC, the EH&S Office and the appropriate supervisor. Animal bites that occur during research should be reported by completing the Animal Bite Form.
- If necessary, seek medical follow up as explained above.
