• Summer Research Students who are not registered for Summer 2026 courses must register for the INTR 001 Summer Research course CRN: 31169 by April 17, 2026 at 11:59 pm. This is a zero-credit placeholder that allows the university to track the students doing research on campus during the summer. It is not an actual “course."

Tax Information

If your application for free summer research housing at William & Mary is approved, please be advised that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) may consider this a taxable benefit. Per IRS regulations, the university is required to classify this benefit accurately for tax purposes, which may result in the reporting of taxable income to the recipient based on the fair market value of the housing provided. Once an application is approved, additional information may be required for the university’s tax compliance team to determine reporting requirements. Housing recipients will be notified promptly if additional information is needed.

William & Mary, its departments, and its employees do not provide tax advice. Please consult your tax professional when considering your application for free housing. Reporting and taxation of student payments are governed by the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations and enforced by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

To support students enrolled in short-term W&M academic and/or research programs, Residence Life offers 2-week short-term housing sessions for the following periods:

• Session A: May 24, 2026 – 10am on June 6, 2026
• Session B: June 1, 2026 – 10am on June 13, 2026
• Session C: June 8, 2026 – 10am on June 20, 2026
• Session D: June 15, 2026 – 10am on June 27, 2026
• Session E: June 22, 2026 – 10am on July 4, 2026
• Session F: June 29, 2026 – 10am on July, 11, 2026
• Session G: July 6, 2026 – 10am on July 18, 2026
• Session H: July 13, 2026 – 10am on July 25, 2026
• Session J: July 20, 2026 – 10am on August 1, 2026

Session Rates:

• $549.12 - Double Occupancy Room for minimum 2-week short-term session
  • Plus $320.32 for each additional consecutive week
• $592.32 – Single Occupancy Room for minimum 2-week short-term session
  • Plus $345.52 for each additional consecutive week

Reminders:

• Summer Housing is not available before May 24, 2026 nor after 10 am on August 1, 2026.
• Residence Life will confirm student enrollment in W&M short term academic summer course/courses/approved research before a short-term housing request would be approved.

• March 5, 2026: Priority deadline to request summer research housing through with the Charles Center
• March 16, 2026: Summer housing application opens
• April 6, 2026: Deadline to submit new and/or revised disability housing accommodation requests and documentation to the Student Accessibility Services office
• April 3, 2026: Final deadline to request summer research housing through the Charles Center if space remains
• April 17, 2026: Priority Deadline for summer housing applications - applications received after this date will still be considered if spaces are still available
• April 20, 2026: Summer sessions 1 , 3, A, B, C, D & E room assignment emails will begin going out this week
• May 24, 2026: Summer Sessions 1 & 3 housing check-in by appointment begins - 2026 Move-In form (available by April 24, 2026)
• June 1, 2026: Summer Session 2, F, G, H & J room assignment emails will begin going out this week
• June 27, 2026: Summer Session 1 housing check out by 10am for those students signed up for Summer Session 1 only
• June 28, 2026: Summer Session 2 only residents check in by appointment begins - 2026 move-in form (available by early June 2026)
• August 1, 2026: Summer housing check out by 10 am for all summer housing residents

• If space permits, the groups below may also be offered summer housing

  • Graduate students with a 2026-27 academic year housing assignment

• Please note that one or more Evans Apartments building will be under maintenance for summer 2026 and therefore is not eligible summer occupancy. We will add the affected buildings here once they are identified.

• Graduate students seeking spring late departure after 10am on May 17, 2026, from their spring 2026 housing assignment must make that request on the summer housing application by no later than May 10, 2026.
• The Evans Apartments open for the fall 2026 semester on August 10, 2026. Graduate student fall early arrival requests must be received on the summer housing application at least one week before their anticipated arrival date. No move-in appointments are available on August 8 & 9, 2026. No exceptions.
  • While early arrival requests are not guaranteed, students with academic commitments before the official fall opening date are prioritized (for example, MBA Boot Camp)
• No late departures are permitted for summer housing students without a fall 2026 housing assignment. These students must move out/return keys by no later than 10am on August 1, 2026. No exceptions.
• Please note that one or more Evans Apartments building will be under maintenance for summer 2026 and therefore is not eligible summer occupancy. We will add the affected buildings here once they are identified.

• Evans Apartments summer room rate: $41.81/night
• The one or more Evans Apartments buildings will be under maintenance for all of summer 2026 and is unavailable for summer assignments nor spring late departure/fall early arrival requests. We will add the affected buildings here once they are identified.

• August 1, 2026: Summer housing check out by 10am for those students not assigned to live at the Evans Apartments for fall 2026

• Individuals must be sponsored by a W&M department to participate in the department’s summer research program.
• Grant-funded summer research housing is only available during the Summer School Session housing periods (see below). Early move-in and late-departure requests will not be granted.

• Send the participant request list (see template) to Residence Life by April 17, 2026 via TEAMS to [[lbsmit]] including any roommate requests (can be a mix of grant-funded/non-grant-funded roommates).
• Grant-funded summer residents are billed to the sponsoring department fall all pre-arranged weeks.

• Non-W&M individuals must first obtain a W&M student ID# (93#) once they submit a Non-Degree-Seeking Application. Please do this as soon as possible as it can take up to 24 hours to generate the ID#. 
  • The Non-Degree-Seeking application is available through the W&M Registrar's office.
    • Non-W&M individuals should follow these instructions to waive the $50 application fee: 1) Select "Current UG student (visiting)" as the student type. 2) In the Acknowledgement section of the NDS application (at the end of the application), enter "Summer Research" in the "Enter Code" line. 3) Finalize, review, and submit the application.”
• Individuals who are not registered for 2026 summer school courses, but who are participating in summer research or an internship on campus, with pre-approval from a W&M department are required to register for INTR 001 Summer Research course CRN: 31169 by April 17, 2026 at 11:59 pm. This is a zero-credit placeholder that allows the university to track the students doing research on campus during the summer. It is not an actual “course."

• All summer on-campus housing residents are required to fill out the summer housing application (includes the summer housing contract) that goes live March 16, 2026 on the housing portal.  
  • A shortened url for the housing portal is: https://go.wm.edu/zmYRgb
  • Please direct your program participants to the housing portal after they have their W&M Banner ID# (93#) so they can submit their summer housing application. 
  • It can take up to 48 hours after their W&M Banner ID# (93#) is created for them to be able to access the housing portal.
  • If they are having difficulty accessing the housing portal, please have them reach out to the W&M Residence Life Assignments Team at [[myroom]] for assistance.
  • Summer Housing Applications should be submitted no later than April 17, 2026.
• When summer housing residents are assigned into a space, Residence Life will email them move in appointment instructions at that time.
  • Weekend check in appointments are limited to Sunday, May 24, 2026 & Sunday, June 28, 2026 only. All other check in appointments are Monday-Friday during regular business hours.  Evening, holiday and additional weekend check-in appointments are not available.
• Summer Meal Plans are not required but are available.
• Residence Life staff will begin initiating grant funded summer research housing Accounting Journals for the housing fees beginning June 1, 2026.

Individuals who need to arrive early are encouraged to make off-campus accommodation arrangements at their own cost. Learn more about special lodging rates available to the W&M community.

Summer on-campus housing undergraduate housing is only available from May 24, 2026 through 10am on August 1, 2026. We are unable to accommodate students on campus outside of those dates.

Residence Life is only able to accommodate a VERY limited number of on-campus early arrivals before short stay sessions. 

Weekend check-in appointments are limited to Sunday, May 24, 2026 & Sunday, June 28, 2026. All other check-in appointments are Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Evening, weekend and holiday check-in appointments are not available.

Pre-approved early arrival students are billed the non-negotiable $50 per day early arrival fee. Early arrival approvals are for the individual student only and do not extend to roommates/suitemates or friends/guests.

Summer early arrival requests may be emailed to living@wm.edu beginning April 17, 2026, and be requested no later than 2 business days in advance of an anticipated arrival. Please be sure to send the request from your W&M email account and include the date of your requested arrival, a statement of why you are requesting early arrival as well as a copy of your transportation tickets and travel itinerary.
