Application Details
All students who wish to live on campus next year must sign a housing contract in the 2024-25 housing application by 5pm Tuesday, February 13, 2024, due date, to have the best opportunity of receiving a regular room selection time slot. Time slots during traditional room selection week will be based on high school graduation year.
Students who sign a housing contract in the 2024-25 housing application after the 5pm Tuesday, February 13, 2024, due date may be assigned a bed space by Residence Life staff if there is no active housing waitlist. If there is an active housing waitlist, when a student signs the housing contract, they will be placed on the waitlist. Those who signed their contract after 5pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, will be added to the waitlist behind those who met the initial contract due date.
Room Selection Details
Rising seniors approved for housing will be the first to choose their rooms, followed by approved rising juniors and then rising sophomores. A student's designated room selection day/time slot is determined by high school graduation year, not social class nor credit hour academic standing.
Waitlist Details
W&M manages a waitlist for on-campus housing every year – it is something we anticipate and are prepared to handle. Please see additional information about the W&M housing waitlist process. As the room inventory remains essentially unchanged for the coming year, we anticipate a housing waitlist of potentially 400-500 students, similar to last year. While we cannot guarantee that all students initially placed on the housing waitlist will eventually be offered on-campus housing, in past years, we have been able to house all undergraduate students who actively remained on the waitlist, including fall 2023.
Off-Campus Housing Fairs
We want to provide support and information to our rising junior and senior students as they consider housing options for next year. We are in the process of scheduling several off-campus housing fairs for students who are not required to live on campus. Our goal is to connect students with property managers and related campus services. We will communicate these details once they are available. Please watch your email for news on this topic very soon.
New for 2024-2025 Room Selection
- Old Dominion Hall will close for a complete renovation and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2025.
- Monroe Hall will reopen for first-year students in fall 2024.
- Barrett Hall will house first-year students for 2024-25.
- DuPont Hall will house upper-level students for 2024-25.
- Same Room Sign Up – As our bed count inventory for the 2024-25 academic year remains static for next year, the "same room sign up" process will remain temporarily paused to ensure we have enough space to accommodate the two-year live-on requirement. Same room sign-up will not be offered for the 2024-25 returning student room selection process. We look forward to returning to this practice in future years.
Additional Details
Disability Accommodation - Disability housing accommodations are not automatically renewed for each academic year and must be requested and approved each academic year. An approved disability accommodation in housing does not guarantee that a student will be able to secure on-campus housing, and all upper-level students are subject to the housing lottery unless specifically exempted. To ensure the processing of accommodation requests before room selection, students should submit all requests for accommodation and associated documentation to Student Accessibility Services by February 5, 2024.
Religious Accommodation - Requests for religious housing accommodations are considered case-by-case. To ensure the processing of accommodation requests before room selection, students should submit all requests for accommodation and associated documentation to the Dean of Students Office by February 5, 2024.
Gender-Inclusive Housing – Residence Life is committed to offering gender-inclusive housing options to ensure inclusive communities. Residence Life offers gender housing preference options for students to meet individual needs.
We look forward to having you live on campus with us next year!
