Application Details
All students who wish to live on campus next year must sign a Housing Contract in the 2027-28 Housing Application by the 5 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2027 due date in order to have the best opportunity of receiving a regular room selection time slot. Time slots during Traditional Room Selection Week will be based upon high school graduation year.
Students who sign a Housing Contract in the 2027-28 Housing Application after the 5 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2027 due date may be assigned a bed space by Residence Life staff if there is not an active housing wait list. If there is an active housing wait list at the time a student signs the Housing Contract, they will be placed on the wait list. Those who sign their contract after 5 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2027 will be added to the wait list behind those who met the initial contract due date.
William & Mary offers a variety of on-campus residential living-learning and special interest communities to returning undergraduate students. Each program incorporates distinct programs and activities for participants to immerse themselves in the purpose of their unique community. From languages to culture, opportunities are available for students to live amongst other students with similar specific interests. All students are welcome to apply to any community in which they have an interest.
Room Selection Details
Rising seniors will be the first to choose their rooms, followed by rising juniors, then rising sophomores. A student’s designated room selection day/time slot is determined by high school graduation year, not social class nor credit hour academic standing.
New for 2027-28
Richmond Hall: Richmond Hall’s lease ends Summer 2027 with Residence Life and it will no longer be part of W&M’s housing inventory.
One Tribe Place: We are permanently adding 50 beds to One Tribe Place. Affected rooms will have XL Twin beds due to the reduction in beds from Richmond Hall coming out of the W&M inventory.
Reves Hall: Will be added back into the room selection inventory. This provides additional housing options for upperclassmen during returning student room selection.
Willis Hall: Will be available to returning students for the 2027–28 academic year.
Same Room Sign Up: Due to reduced housing capacity following the closure of Richmond Hall, same room sign up is being discontinued. This will help ensure we have sufficient space to meet the university’s two-year residency requirement.
Waitlist Process Update: We received significant feedback from roommate groups affected by the waitlist process from previous years, some members of a roommate group were placed on the waitlist while others were not.
- Moving forward, roommate groups will remain together throughout the randomized waitlist allocation and reinstatement processes. All students listed as active members of a roommate group by the 5:00 pm on February 16, 2027 housing contract deadline will be considered together and will not be split by the waitlist allocation and reinstatement processes. Please note that roommate groups do not receive preference over individual students in the randomized waitlist and reinstatement processes.
Additional Details
Disability Accommodation - Disability accommodations in housing are automatically renewed for each academic year. An approved disability accommodation in housing does not guarantee that a student will be able to secure on campus housing and all upperclassmen are subject to the housing lottery unless specifically exempted. To ensure processing of new or updated accommodation requests prior to room selection, students should submit all new or updated requests for accommodation and associated documentation to Student Accessibility Services by February 8, 2027.
Religious Accommodation - Requests for religious accommodations in housing are considered on a case-by-case basis. To ensure processing of accommodation requests prior to room selection, students should submit all requests for accommodation and associated documentation to the Planning, Strategy & Integrative Practices Office by February 8, 2027.
Gender-Inclusive Housing – Residence Life is committed to offering gender-inclusive housing options to ensure inclusive communities. Residence Life offers gender housing preference options for students to meet individual needs.
Off-Campus Housing Fairs
For students who are not required to live on campus as they consider housing options for next year, Off-Campus Housing & Education Fairs will be held later this year.
