About Emma
Emma Gourdie joins William & Mary from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where she worked as a research assistant and program coordinator in the Department of Psychiatry's Addiction Sciences Division. There, she supported NIH-funded clinical trials, managing participant recruitment, informed consent, screening, and clinical assessments, including the eMINI and related diagnostic instruments.
Before entering clinical research, Emma was the lead teacher at a public Montessori school, an experience that shaped her attention to process, structure and individualized support, skills she now brings to her work in research compliance.
At William & Mary, Emma serves as the primary analyst for the Institutional Review Board (IRB), where she develops and manages IRB procedures, reviews research protocols, and leads training for investigators. She also supports the University's IACUC and IBC committees.
