CLSS Scheduling Phases

In CLSS, each term’s schedule moves through a series of phases and modesPhases determine what kinds of edits are allowed and by whomModes reflect where the data lives, either only in CLSS during Design Mode or in both CLSS and Banner during Refine Mode

Key Points for Schedulers & Approvers

  • CLSS Scheduling Phases (shown below) – Designed around undergraduate course scheduling, but graduate section building generally follows the same phases (with a few exceptions).
  • Phases are term specific – You may work on multiple terms at once, each in a different phase. For example, Spring might be locked for Scheduling Unit edits during the UReg Room Assignment Phase, while Fall is still open for section edits in the Publish Phase.
  • Design Mode – A one-time schedule build that takes place entirely in CLSS. Once approved through the Schedule Build Workflow, the schedule is pushed to Banner, beginning Refine Mode.
  • Refine Mode – Ongoing updates are made in CLSS and synced to Banner after workflow approval. Most workflows require only UReg review.
    • Exceptions:  If changes affect sections with enrolled students during the Publish Phase, the Scheduling Unit must submit a workflow request to the School Approver. If approved, students must be informed of the changes. Schedulers then complete their step in the workflow to confirm that students have been contacted.
