Bio
Abby Lane ‘28 grew up in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, surrounded by agriculture, hiking trails, and the beautiful scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Growing up, she often spent the summers road-tripping to various national parks, including Yellowstone, Glacier, and Denali. These experiences were formative in developing her interests in the natural world. Her major coursework in Biology and Integrative Conservation, mixed with her early connection with nature, developed into a deep passion for protecting the environment and wildlife. She brings various skills to the CRP through her experiences in water quality testing, planting a riparian buffer, and volunteering with a local community garden.
Her creativity and commitment are two valuable attributes that align closely with this project’s community-led initiative, and she is excited to work alongside a diverse team from William & Mary’s IIC, Moore Center for Science, CI Madagascar, and the community members of Anosivola, Madagascar. After graduation, Abby plans to use her skills gained from the CRP to continue working in community-led conservation projects, involving wildlife, invasive species, and environmental monitoring. Outside the classroom, Abby is a year-round distance runner on the cross country and track & field teams and is a member of Botany Club. In her free time, she enjoys swimming in local rivers and lakes, going on camping trips, watching movies with her friends, and painting and drawing
