Strategic Initiatives

The William & Mary Comprehensive Plan provides a framework to guide future development of the university’s campuses and landholdings. While flexible in nature, the plan recommendations affirm W&M’s goals of academic excellence: student success, belonging, dynamic partnerships, resilient and sustainable land use, and financial sustainability.

William & Mary has initiated a long-term, comprehensive plan to modernize and revitalize its residential and dining facilities. The project spans three phases to address aging residence and dining halls and ensure they advance the integration of living and learning on campus.

To meet the evolving needs of its faculty and staff, W&M has modernized its ERP to align the current business demands of the university with a technology partner and toolset that delivers the functionality and user experience that is needed by the W&M community. On July 1, 2025, W&M implemented Workday as the new enterprise software platform for finance and human resources, with the modernization of the student information system under planning.

At William & Mary, leadership is viewed as a continuous journey. The university’s robust suite of leadership development programs is thoughtfully designed to nurture growth at every career stage, cultivating the skills and mindset needed to lead with purpose and impact.

W&M’s mission is to be “a preeminent, public research university, grounded in the liberal arts and sciences since 1693.” Every two years, public institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia are required to submit a Six Year Plan to the state. As the institution approaches its Quarter Millennium celebration in 2026, Vision 2026 will conclude and the university will begin developing the next strategic plan.
