Brennan Merone '22

Brennan is a junior originally from Charlottesville, Virginia. He is pursuing a double major in Economics and Mathematics and hopes to enter a Master's program in Economics after graduation. On campus, Brennan serves as the President of the W&M Economics Club, where he works to arrange seminars with professors and alumni about the current state of economics research. He has also served on the Economic Policy Review Board of Our National Conversation and done data analysis work with The Ridge House Group. Brennan is incredibly excited for this opportunity to connect with members of the global financial industry and broaden his economic horizons.

Neradena is a sophomore from Chesterfield, Virginia. She plans to double major in Psychology and Economics. She is a W&M Scholar and spends most of her free time reading books and playing video games. After graduation, she plans to use her degree(s) to get a job. She is unsure of what the future holds but is excited regardless.

Emily Boyd '23

Emily is a sophomore studying International Relations at William and Mary. She hopes to intern and someday work in Washington, DC. She wants to work in foreign politics, particularly at the Department of State. She is an active member of the Circle K International (CKI) club at William and Mary, doing community service at the university and in Williamsburg. When she is not in Williamsburg for school, she lives in a small town in Massachusetts with her parents, two younger sisters, younger brother, and dog.

Lizzy Crotty '21

Lizzy Crotty is a senior Economics and Music double major at W&M. Her favorite classes have included Labor Economics and Antitrust Economics, and she looks forward to expanding her experience through the DCWS Foreign Economic Policy seminar. This year Lizzy is conducting a senior thesis research project in Labor Economics, investigating concentration in the health care labor market. Lizzy is involved in the music department as the President of the Symphony Orchestra and the chamber ensemble Gallery Players. Lizzy also serves as the Chair of the Conduct and Honor Advisor Program, a team of advisors which guides students through the disciplinary process on campus. After graduation, Lizzy will be working as a Consultant at Bates White, an economic consulting firm in D.C.

John Holt has been interested in politics from a young age. John is a sophomore studying Economics and Government at W&M and hopes this class will be an interesting window into the politics of economics on an international scale. Outside of school, John enjoys camping, reading, and hiking.

Robert Viazzoli '23

Robert Viazzoli is a sophomore pursuing a BA (International Honours) in Economics as part of the William & Mary and St Andrews Joint Degree Program. Robert was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, but currently resides in Needham, Massachusetts. In his first year at St Andrews, he became an active member of the University of St Andrews Investment Society and the University of St Andrews Economics Society. In his first months as a Joint Degree HOST student at William & Mary, Robert has joined the Mason Investment Club and the Economics Club. He enjoys courses that expand his knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and financial economics, but also enjoys taking courses that grow his knowledge as a global citizen. Outside of school, Robert enjoys skiing, playing tennis, and traveling. In his first year at St Andrews, he spent weekends in Switzerland, London, and other Scottish locales. He looks forward to spending more time in Williamsburg, Washington, D.C., and Richmond. In more normal times, you can usually find Robert studying in a café and drinking some form of iced coffee. Robert is eager to meet his professors and peers in D.C. for the Winter Seminar Program across all disciplines. Anybody interested in getting a coffee- preferably iced- and meet other students in the Winter Seminar Program should reach out to Robert!

Natalie Yanni '22

Natalie is a Junior studying Economics and Finance at William and Mary and the Mason School of Business. In her free time on campus, she is a member and former leader of DoubleTake A Cappella, William and Mary's oldest all-gendered group, in which she sings, performs and competes with her closest friends. Natalie previously worked with the American Red Cross as an intern, during which she helped to build their sustainability program, and develop a program for a cleaner and greener corporate world.

Aidan O'Connell '22

Aidan is a junior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina studying Public Policy and Economics. Outside of class, he plays ultimate Frisbee for the William & Mary Merry Men and sings tenor in the Gentlemen of the College a cappella group. Additionally, he began working this semester as a research assistant for a new Global Research Institute pilot project, the Center for Latin American Development (CLAD). After graduation, Aidan hopes to pursue a career in economic policy and research, with a focus on political economy and development. He is thrilled to be taking part in the Foreign Economic Policy: Theory Meets Practice DC Winter Seminar, and can’t wait to learn in “the room where it happens.”

Emma Perdue '22

Emma is a junior studying Business Analytics and Economics. She has a passion for applying business solutions to known economic problems. Emma is doing research with the Economics department and works on campus as an Economics tutor. She has also participated in Mason's Business Institute this summer, learning more about the economic and business implications of COVID-19. She lives in Tennessee when she is not on campus and enjoys hiking and reading in her free time.

Paul Scemama is a CAMS major and Econ minor. He is excited for the Foreign Economics seminar since he has always been interested in international affairs, although he enjoys more technical studies. He plays Basketball and plays the piano, and he enjoys a nice hot cup of joe every morning.

Katharine Tarn '23

Katharine is currently a sophomore at W&M, on the Joint Degree Programme with the University of St Andrews, and is majoring in International Relations. Katharine has previously undertaken work experience roles at the United Nations, and European Parliament in Strasbourg. She is also a member of the inaugural Government Department Student Advisory Board (SAB), set up to review department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion planning.

Andrew was born and raised in Geneva, Illinois, and has been interested in history, economics, and foreign affairs for as long as he can remember. In his free time, Andrew enjoys watching the Chicago Cubs and playing tennis and the guitar.

Kevin is a sophomore studying economics at W&M. Kevin is involved in Students for University Advancement, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, and often works on Student Leadership Development initiatives like the Executive Appropriations Committee and the Student Org Recognition Committee. Outside of William and Mary, Kevin is a swim coach and works with a local grassroots advocacy organization in Prince William County. In his free time, he enjoys playing jazz guitar and catching up with old friends.

Jake Mathews is a senior studying Public Policy at the College of William & Mary. Originally from a small town near the Tennessee-Kentucky border, Jake completed his Associate's degree at a small community college in Maryland before transferring to William & Mary in the Fall of 2019. Planning to graduate in Spring 2021, Jake hopes to enroll in the Mason School of Business to earn his Master’s of Accounting, with the hopes of taking this knowledge to the public sector.

He has been interested in trade and foreign policy ever since his dad turned on the History Channel for the first time, and is excited to further his study in DC. In his free time, he likes to wrestle, crochet, and worship Jesus, in no particular order.
