Caroline Abbott '19

Henry Blackburn '20

Henry is a junior from Dallas, Texas, double majoring in philosophy and government. Henry is a part of Student Assembly, the WM Admissions Office, and is currently helping create a new civic engagement program/seminar at the College. He hopes to study philosophy in grad school and potentially attend law school as well. Henry is looking forward to learning about the role schools can and do play in raising responsible citizens in a democracy.

Alexander Brinkley '19

Alexander is a Norfolk native, graduating from Norfolk Christian High School in 2016. He is a Business Analytics-Data Science major with a concentration in Consulting and a minor in Psychology. On campus, he is involved in Reformed University Fellowship, Men’s Club Volleyball, and is a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He also is Executive Producer at Identity Production Studios, a local video production company. While he plans to pursue a business career after college, he hopes to one day return to his high school and contribute to the organization’s growth in whatever way possible. He is hopeful that this program will give him great insight into an issue of primary importance in our society: the education of the next generation.

Gloria is a Junior at the College of William & Mary, she is from Newport News, Virginia. Gloria is pursuing a degree in History with an Educational Studies minor with a focus in Policy & Equity. 

Hope Duke '19

Hope Duke is a senior at the College, majoring in geology.  On campus, she is involved in Alpha Phi Omega, the Young Democrats, Geology Club, and The Haven.  She is interested in pursuing a career in the environmental realm, doing some combination of advocacy, education, and policy.  She is excited to begin understanding what has shaped the urban education system and the policies we see today.

Lindsey is a sophomore from Essex, Vermont. She is planning on majoring in public policy while pursuing the pre-med track. On campus, she's involved in TribeTHON, best buddies, and a mentor with Griffin School Partnerships. She's excited to learn more about Urban Education while experiencing life in DC!

Kailyn Gyuricsko '20

Kailyn Gyuricsko is a Junior at the College, double-majoring in Accounting and Psychology. She grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, but wants to move to a big city after college. Kailyn enjoys running and cooking, and wants to pursue a career in public accounting. On campus, she is an Orientation Aide, and will be an Orientation Area Director next Fall, member of H.O.P.E. in the Healthy Relationships and Sexual Violence Prevention branch, and a Tri Delta Sorority member, where she is an active member of the chapter’s Wellness Committee. She is excited to explore the city of D.C., while learning more about education inequality and the role of policy making in the school system, and hopes to bring a diverse perspective to the seminar this Winter.

Cameron How '20

Cameron How is a junior at the College from Virginia Beach, VA. He is majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Management and Organizational Leadership. He serves as a Resident Assistant, the Secretary for Academic Affairs in Student Assembly, and as a student representative on the Leadership Advisory Council. The common thread that weaves Cameron's extracurricular and curricular involvement and passions together is developing community and giving weight to the notion that, "Those who come here, belong here." The summer of his freshman year, Cameron interned for a non-profit called Global Playground, which builds schools in developing countries, through the DC center's summer session in Leadership and Democratic Engagement. Working for Global Playground sparked Cameron's passion for creating educational equity and ultimately led him to this Winter Seminar.

Lizzie Johnson '19

Lizzie Johnson is a junior at the college, majoring in history. Before transferring to W&M last semester, Lizzie studied art history at Smith College, where she discovered her interest in museum education. During her first year at the college, Lizzie has written positive messages for Campus Cursive, attended many improv shows, and explored Colonial Williamsburg. She is thankful for the opportunity to study in DC during her senior year and looks forward to continuing to make the most of her time at William & Mary.

Stacy is a sophomore, pursuing a CAMS mathematical biology major and a Psychology minor. Stacy is from China. On campus, she's a member of a service community, Circle K International. Stacy really enjoys volunteering and contacting with people. Her academic interests are mainly life science, but education has always been a field that she's curious about. Thus, she is so excited to know more about how education plays a role in a society while exploring D.C. from a brand-new perspective.

Izzy is a senior at the College, majoring in History. After graduation, she is attending William & Mary’s School of Education for her Master’s in Elementary Education. She hopes to get a job in Richmond after she finishes graduate school. Izzy is involved on campus with Alpha Kappa Psi, the professional business fraternity, as their VP of Alumni Relations, as well as a part of Tribe Fellowship, Campus Buddies, and an off-campus Bible study. Izzy was born and raised in Williamsburg, and spent the past summer in Cape Town, South Africa on a study abroad program. She is excited to apply the information she learns in DC’s public school system to aid her time as a teacher.

Maggie Wells is a sophomore at the College pursing a double major in Government and Sociology. She is originally from Danville, Virginia. On campus, Maggie is a member of Tri Delta, a Facility Supervisor at the Student Recreation Center, a tutor in Tutoring for Social Change, and a Teaching Fellow for the Sharpe Scholars Program. In her free time, Maggie likes to read, run, and hike. Originally from a rural area experiencing educational inequity, she looks forward to exploring issues of inequity in urban education this winter in D.C.
