Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the deputy to the Chief Career Officer and Associate Vice President of Advancement and oversees the overall coordination, long-range planning, and evaluation for the Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement
  • Oversight of the seven teams of professional staff in the industry areas of Business Careers, Career Access & Engagement, Creative Careers, Data & Systems Management, Education, Public Service & Human Services, Employer Development & Engagement, and STEM Careers. He works in lockstep with the Chief Career Officer and Associate Vice President of Advancement to ensure career development initiatives are strategically executed.

About Renard

Dr. Renard Miles is a native of Jackson, Tennessee and a graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Austin Peay State University with a Master of Science in Management, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Doctor of Philosophy in Learning and Leadership. 

Professionally, Renard serves as a Director-College on the National Association of Colleges and Employers' Board of Directors. Previously, he served as a Co-Chair of the Principles for Ethical Professional Practice and Honors and Awards Committees with NACE. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE).

With SoACE, he has served as a Past Chair of the Employer Relations Knowledge Group and the Assistant Chair of Conference Breakouts. In these roles, he worked with a team of diverse career services professionals to offer the association a comprehensive series of workshops, webinars, and breakout sessions. Additionally, Renard has served SoACE as the Chair of the Employer Relations Knowledge Group, Co-Chair of the APEX: The Black Career Services Professional Summit, and Program Coordinator for Webinars and Virtual Professional Development.

Prior to coming to William & Mary, Renard worked at the University of Tennessee at Martin and the University of Memphis. He also has experience in secondary education and urban ministry. Renard enjoys learning from students and sharing what he has learned from his professional experiences. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and serving as a national volunteer with his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. His hobbies include traveling, hiking, and teaching group fitness classes.
