Professor of: {{https://www.wm.edu/as/sociology/directory/linneman_t.php, Sociology}}
Background
I have served as the Faculty Director of the Office of Academic Advising, now Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, since 2017. In this position, I work with the W&M's 300 faculty pre-major advisors, training them, answering their questions, and keeping them on track throughout the year. I am also a professor in the Department of Sociology, where I teach courses on statistics, social change, and sexualities. At W&M, I have won awards for my teaching and advising.
Advising Philosophy
When I am working with my own advisees, I try to get them to consider all of their options, and to help them learn how to weigh all these options.
Favorite thing about the job
I love working with a group of people who truly care about helping our students succeed, whether this be the staff of the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, the Registrar’s office, or my fellow faculty advisors.
Something you wish all students knew
I wish they knew that making mistakes, owning them, and learning from them are among the best ways to grow as aperson.
Interests and hobbies
I enjoy running, jigsaw puzzling, and learning languages.
