For Faculty Advisors

Faculty advising is a hallmark of the undergraduate student and faculty experience at William & Mary. Faculty serve voluntarily as pre-major, pre-professional, and major advisors to help students develop and pursue their individual plans of study. It's a system that works. Collegial discussions with faculty advisors provide students with first-hand experience and knowledge that open the way to considering new options and tapping into campus resources. Ultimately, faculty advisors help their advisees' achieve their academic goals and set the stage for a lifetime of personal and professional success.

Professional advisors in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs help to cultivate the mentoring relationships between faculty and pre-major students. The professional staff offer expertise and knowledge in working with faculty to help foster students into self-directed learning and achievement. Department chairs, Deans, and directors of undergraduate studies also contribute to this process and serve an integral role in shaping the undergraduate experience.
